New WUnderground plugin with Sunrise/Sunset and DayNight
Re: New WUnderground plugin with Sunrise/Sunset and DayNight
The WUnderground is working perfect for me now. The events not triggering had to do with using the same name for an object and a script. Once I changed the script to something unique it worked. That was a fun puzzle to figure out.
Re: New WUnderground plugin with Sunrise/Sunset and DayNight
WUnderground always only provides Sunrise and Sunset times.kherron wrote:Could it be that the weather station you are connecting to is not reporting these values![]()
The weather station NEVER provides for following values:
DawnPre - minutes before sunrise that dawn should start
DawnPost - minutes after sunrise that dawn should end and day starts
DuskPre - minutes before sunset that dusk should start
DuskPost - minutes after sunset that dusk should end and night starts
The OSA users has to manually populate these values if they want to use this feature.
So if you want something to trigger 10 minutes before Sunset you have to enter 10 in the DuskPre property. The WUnderground plugin then calculates a Dusk time and generates the Dusk event.

Re: New WUnderground plugin with Sunrise/Sunset and DayNight
I'm still getting to know OSA so forgive the silly questions....
I seem to have the plugin working ok and the "weather" object has lots of nice data against it's properties.
So now my big question is what do we do with this data now? I suppose the main use is to trigger things based on values. I went as far as putting the temperature as text on a screen, but can we go as far as putting some of the images retrieved by the plugin from WU to show little icons of weather on a screen?
Any hints, tips or ideas would be appreciated....

I use the temperature to turn on my attic fan when the outside temperature is lower than my attic temperature.
I also use the current temperature and the day's forecast high to decide how much pre-cooling I need to minimize AC use during the high $/KWh period in the middle of summer days.
In the Screens app, Add Control / User Control you can add a pre-built weather display.

I did not create nor have I been using the Weather User Control. I did try it before posting and it worked for me.
I'm thinking there may have been a bug fix made a while back. I'll look into it.

I have One that I have been using,
And I just recomplied the UI controls and it still seems to work fine.

Yea, I looked and did not see any changes that had been made to it since 0.4.3

Yeah, that was my first attempt at a custom control. I have not worked on it in a long while and don't even display it on any of my screens. But now that I am getting caught back up and working on the GUI a bunch, I will take a look at it and at least make sure the images are being error trapped, etc.
