Problems connecting Z Wave Universal Dimmer

#1 Post by Jono_mw » Thu Jul 17, 2014 9:38 pm

I've set up my Z wave device and everything looks fine. In the Zwave log in the OSA application, it looks like the command is sent through successfully but I get no response from the Dimmer. It does not turn on. I thought I may get at ACK message back, but nothing either.

I'm using the fibar UNIVERSAL DIMMER FGD211 v1.4. and am able to switch the device off and on in OZWForm.

I'm hoping I can get some help as this is my first installation. I've added screen shots :)

Hi, I am relatively new to OSA, but I had the same problem with the same device.

The issue is that the Dimmer revision is newer than the OpenZWave XML config file for Fibaro devices.

If you locate the XML file in the plugins\ZWave directory (I can't remember what it is called and I am not at my machine at the moment)

You will see that there is a section for each manufacturer. Under the Fibaro Manufacturer section, you will find your device, but it probably only goes up to ID "0109". Yours, like mine is the slightly newer, "100a". This line points to a Fibaro config file for the device.

If you add a line, like the "109" line, and then just change the ID to "100a", save the XML file, delete the "Unknown ... " object from the "Objects" and the "Unknown ..." Object Type from the "Objects Type" screens, and restart the ZWave plugin, or the OSA service, hopefully it will detect it now.

Hi Andre

I've foudn the file: C:\Program Files\OSA\Plugins\ZWave\config\manufacturer_specific.xml and had a look to see what I could find:

Product name="FGBS001 Universal Binary Sensor" id="0102" config="fibaro/fgbs001.xml" type="0501"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0104" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0107" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0109" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGK101 Door Opening Sensor" id="1000" config="fibaro/fgk001.xml" type="0700"/>
<Product name="FGR221 Roller Shutter Controller" id="100a" config="fibaro/fgr221.xml" type="0300"/>
<Product name="FGR221 Roller Shutter Controller" id="0106" config="fibaro/fgr221.xml" type="0300"/>
<Product name="FGR221 Roller Shutter Controller" id="0107" config="fibaro/fgr221.xml" type="0300"/>
<Product name="FGS211 Switch 3kW" id="0104" config="fibaro/fgs211.xml" type="0400"/>
<Product name="FGS211 Switch 3kW" id="0105" config="fibaro/fgs211.xml" type="0400"/>
<Product name="FGS211 Switch 3kW" id="0106" config="fibaro/fgs211.xml" type="0400"/>
<Product name="FGS211 Switch 3kW" id="0107" config="fibaro/fgs211.xml" type="0400"/>
<Product name="FGS211 Switch 3kW" id="0108" config="fibaro/fgs211.xml" type="0400"/>
<Product name="FGS221 Switch 3kW" id="0109" config="fibaro/fgs221.xml" type="0400"/>
<Product name="FGS211 Switch 3kW" id="100a" config="fibaro/fgs211.xml" type="0400"/>
<Product name="FGS221 Double Relay Switch 2x1,5kW" id="0104" config="fibaro/fgs221.xml" type="0200"/>
<Product name="FGS221 Double Relay Switch 2x1,5kW" id="0105" config="fibaro/fgs221.xml" type="0200"/>
<Product name="FGS221 Double Relay Switch 2x1,5kW" id="0106" config="fibaro/fgs221.xml" type="0200"/>
<Product name="FGS221 Double Relay Switch 2x1,5kW" id="0107" config="fibaro/fgs221.xml" type="0200"/>
<Product name="FGS221 Double Relay Switch 2x1,5kW" id="0109" config="fibaro/fgs221.xml" type="0200"/>
<Product name="FGS221 Double Relay Switch 2x1,5kW" id="100a" config="fibaro/fgs221.xml" type="0200"/>

It shows the correct ID, but the "type" is showing "Type=0400" where the log file is showing "Type=0100". I'm at the office, but I'm going to try and change the type to "0100" and see what happens when I get home

Do you know where the "Type="****" config points to as i does not showing in: "C:\Program Files\OSA\Plugins\ZWave\config\fibaro\fgs211.xml" Or is it just for differentiation purposes?

I'm worried because it is in fact a 300W relay nad not a 500W relay and I don't want to damage the device

Thanks a million

Isn't it an FGD211..? ( From your first post) Its a Type ="0100", which is a dimme. A FGS221 is a relay switch.

If its the FGD211 dimmer, then there is this line in the XML file (near the top)
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0109" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>

So add a line of
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="100a" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>

to the file, just under the ID="0109" type="0100" save, delete unknown objects and types, restart plugins / OSA service.
You can also delete your log and your ZWcfg_***.xml file to force the Zwave to refresh

My bad.. A type of from my side.

I've added the device in the "manufacturer_specific.xml:

<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0107" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0109" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGS211 Universal Dimmer 300W" id="100a" config="fibaro/fgs211.xml" type="0100"/>

After doing this, i ran OZW Form and it showed correctly in the list of devices and I am able to turn the device on and off

I deleted all the unknown objects and object types from OSA and restarted. It picked up the device, but instead of showing "uknown type = 0100..........."

it picks up the object and the object type, but still as "Unknown" - See "attachment 1" and attachment 2".

I'm going to try and delete the ZWcfg_***.xml file and see if that should resolve the issue. I have a feeling that the correct information is not being populated in one of the config files. Is there a config file that holds the list of objects and object types?

Hi Jono_mw,

I would try deleting the ZWcfg_***.xml file, but also you still have some typing problems in your manufacturer_specific.xml :P

For an FGD211 dimmer, the line you are adding should read
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="100a" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>

your line that you posted points to a wrong config file for a relay switch (FGS211)

I have also previously had an issue where the Fibaro device stopped sending its manufacturer details and I had to remove the device from the ZWave network and re-include again (Via the Z-Stick)

Once I had a correct Manufacturer XML file and re-included the dimmer in the network, deleted the ZWcfg_***.xml file and log file and started everything again, it worked flawlessly

Hi Andre

Seems like the problem is still persisting. I've followed the following steps:

1. Delete Unknown object and Object type
2. Remove node from controller.
3. Update manufacturer_specific.xml with the following config

<Product name="FGBS001 Universal Binary Sensor" id="0102" config="fibaro/fgbs001.xml" type="0501"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0104" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0107" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0109" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>
<Product name="FGD211 Universal Dimmer 500W" id="0100a" config="fibaro/fgd211.xml" type="0100"/>

4. run OSWForm - Object showing with correct name
5. Open OSA and look at Objects & Object types - Device is not showing at all
6. Stop OSA services - At this stage the zwcfg_0x0184cdd8.xml is recreated
7. Restart OSA - Object and object type is still showing unkown.

The weird thing is that the device is showing in the zwcfg_0x0184cdd8.xm file

It definitely looks as though some progress has been made, as it looks to be detecting it correctly now in the ZWCFG file.

I unfortunately am not sure of the way forward from here.. I would seek the guidance of bwoodworth from here.. I have not had a chance to look at any of the ZWave plugin code as yet, so don't know where, when or under what conditions the objects are named and inserted into SQL.

I have attached a couple of PNG's of my config, perhaps if you can see the ZWave Address of yours and put it in the Address, you can set it up correctly by changing the "Unknown objects type" and "Unknown object" to match mine.

I stand corrected, but as I understand it, that should work.
